Vintage Look for Less March 8, 2009

All of this for only $286.42? I saw this gorgeous chiffon dress with beaded cap sleeves and immediately thought what a statement it would make on a vintage inspired bride. This look would require a somewhat crafty touch, but I think fashioning a belt out of ribbon and an antique belt buckle ($14) and turning bits of rescued tulle, netting, and flowers ($12) into something like this would be so worth the challenge:

Vintage Millinery Flowers September 18, 2008

A lot of brides like to dress up their wedding hairstyle with flowers, but depending on the quality and where you buy (and how encrusted it is with Swarovski crystals) one ornament can cost up to $150. I know because I’ve looked! If you’re shopping around for something similar, the Vintage Millinery Flowers Shoppe on Ebay is definitely worth a look. They have flowers, leaves, and feathers all out of vintage fabrics, and best of all almost everything in the store costs under $10.

Modern Art Deco March 30, 2008

Inspired by our ongoing condo/house quest, I put together an inspiration board based on the theme of one of our favorite buildings so far: modern art deco. We visited some new upscale condos close to downtown yesterday, and the building design was really innovative. Most of the units are built around curves or interesting angles and each floorplan is unique.

I love the graphic and vintage style of art deco, but it can be a little heavy so lightening the mood with fresh colors and twists on patterns can be really effective. I think this would be a cool and artsy vibe for a wedding that still leaves a lot of wiggle room for personal taste.

Fun with Crinoline March 18, 2008

Rock ‘n Roll Bride’s post yesterday reminded me, as if I needed another reason, how much I love colored crinolines. There is a vintage store in Columbus where there is a whole wall full of fluffy petticoats in every imaginable color and it makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. This bride inspired me, because her overall look is glamorous and playful at the same time, which I think is a difficult balance to pull off.

I put together my own vintage version of her outfit. Its a little matchy-matchy, but I think the chicness of the dress with the nipped in waist and attached neck scarf would be a great contrast to the royal blue and purple crinoline just peeking out the bottom. I have to give Betsey Johnson props for the shoes too; her designs can sometimes be a little over the top but these are fantastic, mostly because of the floral patterned sole!
